“This is it” is the final tribute to late King of pop – Michael Jackson, one of the most influential figures in the popular show business, and certainly one of the biggest and most talented music icons of all times.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born in America and is considered the most successful pop singers and entertainers, and commercially strongest artists around the globe. He was born in 1958, and died tragically this year, leaving millions of fans devastated and also leaving a tremendous legacy behind.

Michael Jackson was one of the most important pop figures in the world for more than 4 decades, and “This is it” is the special tribute by Kenny Ortega, about his work on the biggest comeback concert and tour ever, which was supposed to happen this year, in London. “This is it” never happened, off course, because King of pop died one month before this announced show.
Kenny Ortega had an archive of over 100 hours of material recorded on rehearsals and backstage while “This is it” was preparing, all filmed by the crew working on the concert. This footage was recorded originally for Michael Jackson’s private video archive and was originally never supposed to be released or show in public.

Ortega, who was directing the spectacle, and logically ended up directing the movie, decided to publish material and backstage story, because he was approached by various fans who were asking him to pay tribute to his friend and show the world why Michael was the planet’s biggest superstar.

“This is it” gives us an insight into Michael Jackson’s life and daily routines, where he is (as a performer) focused, in control, precise and doing his best to offer the best performance possible. It is very interesting to see him like this; because Jackson on stage is totally different then he was portrayed in the media. Maybe he had a scandalous life, or so the media wanted us to believe, but on that stage, he was gracious, professional and electric.

Ortega’s movie is a unique document, a patchwork of different rehearsals, songs, backstage jokes and interviews, which all help us understand how badly Michael wanted to make a great show and a memorable comeback for all those supporters who were by his side for decades. Clearly “This is it” shows us just a skeleton of what this concert and tour were supposed to be, but also offers a chance to see how big mega productions look behind the scenes, and how many people work on them along the way.

Whether you are Michael Jackson’s fan or not, you should see this documentary, because it shows the power of will this artist had, it portrays the icon or even better – master at work, and reminds you that he was “just starting something” and had so much more to give.

After just few weeks in the movie theatres, Kenny Ortega’s documentary made over $200 million all over the world. The world still can’t believe the King of pop is gone, and this certainly proves his legacy will keep living as long as we remember how great he was and how many precious moments his music gave us.
