“Astro Boy” (Tetsuwan Atomu) is originally a manga animated series, created by Osamu Tezuka, from Japan, and it was first published back in 1952.

New “Astro Boy” was produced by famous Imagi Animated Studio, and it has been “in development” for over 3 years, before it was completed. Brilliant producers Maryann Garger and Pilar Flynn knew who is the best guy for directing this interesting film – David Bowers.

Bowers is an established director whose work consists of various cult animated movies, for instance “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”. (He actually left his studies to be part of this project).
After this amazing experience David Bowers worked on “Danger Mouse” and “Duckula” and afterwards signed to work in Amblimation studio (for Steven Spielberg). He was the head animator on movie “An American Tail: Fievel Goes West” and after DreamWorks was established, moved to Los Angeles to be the story creator and artist on two movies: “Prince of Egypt” and “The Road to El Dorado”.

After finishing these movies he became a Storyboard artist and Supervisor for “Chicken Run” (the movie which received fabulous critics) and started working parallel for one more studio – Aardman.

His most successful projects include “Shark Tale”, Academy Award winning “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-rabbit” and after that teamed up with Sam Fell for his first feature titled “Flushed Away”.

This impressive biography shows that Summit Entertainment and Imagi Animated Studios actually couldn’t find a better man for their newest project “Astro Boy”. This is an amazing story set in Metro City, imaginary small town set on a cloud floating above the earth. Our central figure is a young boy Toby Tenma, whose father is trying to convince the Government to stop using and creating negative energy and focus on positive core. He is creating robots and trying to find a great use and purpose for them. Suddenly, a disaster happens, and one of his robots kills his beloved son.

That is the moment “Astro Boy” comes to life. “Astro Boy” is a young robot with super powers, designed and manufactured by a brilliant scientist, to recreate the image of his beloved, lost son. Robot starts using his incredible brilliant powers, and becomes a popular super hero, facing the amazing challenge – to save the Earth from violent, threatening aliens.
“Astro Boy” is certainly a must see animated movie for both children and grownups, with fantastic story, authentic animation and excellent cast. Young Kristen Bell is the voice of Cora, Nicolas Cage is Astro Boy’s father, genius scientist Dr. Tenma, Charlize Theron is narrator (“our friend”) and you will among others; recognize voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Bill Nighy, Freddie Highmore and Donald Sutherland (among others).

“Astro Boy” has one more secret weapon – amazing original score. It was composed by famous John Ottman and recorded live at (perhaps the most famous studio in the world) Abbey Road; with big choir and live 95 – piece orchestra.

“Astro Boy” is quite different than average American animated movie, so we strongly suggest you see it at the nearest cinema (preferably in 3D).
