Writer: The movie Whip It is based on a novel by Shauna Cross, called Derby Girl which became an instant bestseller. Shauna Cross herself is a roller derby athlete, and is writing about people and the lifestyle she knows best. She is also an author of original scenario for this movie, and her current project is development of a movie adaptation of Live Nude Girls Unite.

Cast: Ellen Page, teenage star known for her critically acclaimed role in a blockbuster indie movie Juno, is playing the main character in Whip it – Bliss Cavendar. This talented young actress is already considered one of Hollywood’s rising stars, and has won numerous awards (along with the Academy Award Nomination).

Brilliant actress Marcia Gay Harden (who won an Academy Award for Mystic River) is playing Ellen Page’s characters mother – Brooke Cavendar. This remarkable artist was the perfect choice for this role, and she gave it 110%, like always. You certainly know her from movies: Into the Wild, The Maiden Heist, The Hoax, Home, The Tower, and from the TV series Damages.

Plot summary: Bliss Cavendar is a small town girl, living with her parents, and torn between her mother’s passion for beauty pageants and her father’s love for Friday night football. She works as a waitress, along with her best friend Pash, and they are both quite determined to change their current situation and lifestyle. Pash wants to go to college and Bliss decides to attend a Roller Derby event and becomes a Roller derby competitor.

She gathers around a real team, lies about her age and starts training and working hard, to make it in the Roller derby world. On her way to success, she will be disappointed, hurt, inspired, and thrilled, and will keep dreaming of becoming a Roller Derby star. At first, her parents and family will be against this idea, but eventually, she will be determined enough to prove to the world that she will do everything to make it, and to start a new life – the one she really wants.

Recommendation: After Juno and Little Miss Sunshine, indie movies became extremely popular worldwide. This one is no exception. It is a great movie, an inspiring story and a feature you should see. You will be touched, inspired and happy – and that is what movies should do!

Writer: Brilliant Tim Burton, a writer, producer, actor and director wrote this remarkable story. He is the name behind some of the greatest movies in the past 2 decades like: Beetlejuice, Batman Forever, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Lost in Oz, Corpse Bride, 9 etc. He
is known for often casting the same actors – his wife Helena Bonham Carter and his friend Johnny Depp. Burton wrote the original story which was developed by Michael McDowell (Beatle juice, Monsters, Tales from the Dark side).

Danny (Daniel) Elfman, is the man who wrote the lyrics for The Nightmare Before Christmas. He is the main music department person, and has been nominated for the Academy Award for four times. He created some of the most memorable music themes of our times, for the following movies and shows: The Simpsons, Desperate Housewives, Spider-man, Hulk, Good Will Hunting.

Cast: For the main character, Jack Skellington, two actors were casted to do the voiceover: Denny Elfman, as his singing voice, and Chris Sarandon, as his normal/talking voice. Director: Steven Soderbergh (Academy Award Winner, for his movie Traffic) is highly critically acclaimed director from America. He is a multi talented artist, and has been working as an actor, writer, editor, cinematographer and director, in the past. Steven Soderberg’s most famous movies are: Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve; Ocean’s Thirteen, The Good German, and most recent movie Che (about Cuban leader Che Guevara).

Writer: Kurt Eichenwald is an American investigative reporter and a writer of the book The Informant, which inspired Soderberg to make this movie. New York Times announced that this is one of the best nonfiction books in the last decade, and the book became an international bestseller!

Writer, producer and director Scott Z. Burns, made an adaptation of the book, and wrote a movie script for The Informant. This BAFTA Nominee worked closely with the book author and the director himself, and stated that the outcome (script) is absolutely satisfying and authentic.

Cast: Matt Damon is a Boston born actor, known for his famous roles of good guys and undercover agents. He is an Academy Award winner, and is equally known as a talented and creative writer. Damon has worked with many famous directors in the past and he was (as director stated) Soderbergh’s first pick for the role of Mark Whitacre. His biggest roles so far were in these movies: The Bourne Trilogy, Che and Ocean’s Trilogy (where he worked with Soderbergh), Dogma, Good Will hunting, Talented Mr. Ripley etc.

Melanie Lynskey is playing a role of Ginger Whitacre. This actress is well known from Up in the Air, Away We Go and TV series Two and a Half Men.

Scott Bacula – Golden Globe winner is excellent in a role of FBI special agent Brian Shepard. His most popular TV series are: Enterprise, Quantum Leap, Murphy Brown, Mr & Mrs Smith

Plot summary: The informant follows the main character Marc Whitacre. He is working as an employee in a lysine company called ADM, and has been working hard, for years, finally managing to find his way into the higher company management. But, he is not at all aware what is going to happen to him – not only his career will escalate – he will have to start working for the FBI as an undercover spy.

Whitacre is pressured into becoming a spy and his task is to find out everything he can, about the illegal price fixing his company is connected to. Although his tasks are perfectly clear, he starts tripping that he is a real FBI agent, and as he starts living this fixation, everything around him starts falling apart.

He becomes very dangerous for his company, his family starts suffering, and his life is in danger, because he forgets his true identity and embraces the imaginary one, 100% fictional.

Recommendation: No one can tell a story about people’s character better than Steven Soderbergh, and at the same time, no one can portray a confused “small” man better than Matt Damon. These two have created a must see movie, so be sure to watch it, once it comes to your nearest cinema!

Director: Brooklyn born artist Todd Phillips is equally successful as a director, writer, producer and (rarely) an actor. He is currently working on a movie Due Date, and his most famous achievements so far are films: frat House, Road trip, Starsky & Hutch, School for Scoundrels. He is very famous for directing hilarious, often dark, comedies.

Writer: The screenplay for The Hangover was made by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. The two have already worked on various very successful movies like: Four Christmases, Full of it, Rebound and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

Ed Helms is playing the role of nerdy Stu Price, the man who just doesn’t have any luck, and whose life is about to change in Vegas. This brilliant actor has been working on: The Night at the Museum, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Monsters vs. Aliens, The Office and Family Guy; so you probably know him from these movies or TV shows.

Zach Galifianakis is also an excellent addition to the cast – witty, funny and charming, he is portraying Alan garner, troublemaker. Galifianakis has also been very active in the past few years, playing in American dad, Into the Wild, Wonder Showzen etc.

One of the funniest roles in the movie is the one played by hilarious Ken Jeong. He is portraying Mr. Chow, and you will surely be laughing every time he hits the screen. Recently, Jeong has been spectacular in the TV hit series Community.
Finally let us introduce the lady in the movie – heather Graham, she is playing jade, and is really stunning, charming and beautiful as always. (Her biggest success so far is Austin Powers: The Spy who shagged me).
There is one special cameo in The Hangover; we have to mention – Mike Tyson. Former sport superstar and the boxing World Champion is credited as himself and you will love his character.
Plot summary: Doug and Tracy are getting married. Before the wedding, Dog hits Vegas with his best friends and her brother, in order to have fun and party before he gets married. His friends are immature, his wife’s brother is even worse, but they are all keen and eager to party.

Once they get to Vegas, trouble begins. After one wild night, guys wake up with the worst hangover, Doug is missing, and they have no clue what happened last night. Their suite is ruined, they are exhausted and barely alive, and the worst part is – they have just few hours to find Doug and clean up this mess because they have a wedding to attend.

Recommendation: This is a real funny comedy we have been waiting for. Go out with your friends, check out The Hangover and have fun, watching how our heroes solve some crazy problems and try to survive the craziest night of their lives!

BRUCE WILLIS – LAST ACTION HERO
Genre: Action Sci-Fi feature with elements of Thriller and Drama

Writers: The Surrogates was originally a comic book (five issue limited series) drawn by Brett Weldeld, written by Robert Venditti and published by a company named Top Shelf Productions. John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris have written a screenplay for this movie, and developed a comic book story for the big screen. This duo has been working in the action field for years know, writing movies like: Terminator Salvation, terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Primeval, Catwoman etc.

Cast: First of all we have to mention Mr. Bruce Willis, last boyscout and last action hero standing. After flaunting his muscles in Die Hard, Last Boyscout, 5th Element, Lucky number Slevin and Sixth Sense, he is back on the big screen, again as an action figure, to save the world. This certainly isn’t one of his best movies, but he lived up to his fame, that is certain. In Surrogates Bruce Willis is portraying Tom Greer.

Two ladies took the spotlight in Surrogates. One of them is Radha Mitchell (as Peters), Australian actress known for her roles in Silent Hill, Finding Neverland, Visitors etc. Second famous actress featured in Surrogates is Rosamund Pike (known from Fracture, An Education, Die another Day, Doom and Pride and Prejudice). She is portraying Maggie.

Plot summary: Surrogate is a Sci-Fi movie, portraying the world quite different than the one we live in. People live remotely, using surrogate robots who are physically advanced machines, sexy and smart – actually better versions of themselves. In this world there is no crime, pain and certainly no violence or fear.

But, after many years, a murder happens and ruins the utopia everyone believed in. FBI agent Greer (Bruce Willis) is assigned to solve this case and find out who is behind that conspiracy. Greer decides to abandon his surrogate shield and try to solve this mystery, risking his life for the better and safer world.

Recommendation: If you are a Bruce Willis fan, his presence is the biggest recommendation for you – he is being his usual charming self in Surrogates, portraying older, experienced, sarcastic yet humorous agent Greer. Story is very good, but as far as the movie goes, it isn’t the best achievement this crew has ever made. On the other hand, if you like Sci-Fi Thrillers with a lot of Action scenes, you will find Surrogates amusing and interesting.
It may not be the best movie of 2009 but is certainly worth watching!

Director and writer: Quentin Tarantino is a legendary figure of the American cinematography. He is known for breaking the rules and being loved and hated at the same time, for making his movies. Whenever he makes another movie, debates appear about his ideas, originality, and often – brutality he uses often and very much. This movie is a remake of an Italian classic with the same title, but done in a completely new manner, with more humour and improved action scenes. Although it has Tarantino’s typical style and signature, it is quite different than what he did so far.

Quentin Tarantino has signed many excellent movies and you have probably seen them all, his work includes: Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Deathproof etc.

Cast: First of all, the most important part of the cast – Brad Pitt. This is his first collaboration with Tarantino, and he is playing (brilliantly) Lt. Aldo Raine. Just a reminder, brad Pitt Starred in: The Fight Club, 12 monkeys, Babel, troy, Spy Game and many more.

Melanie Laurent is absolutely fantastic in the role of Shosanna Dreyfus, mysterious girl who will play the main role in the movie’s finale. This young French rising star is just starting her Hollywood career and work with Tarantino. is certainly a great starting point for her!

Eli Roth is an American actor, who already collaborated with Tarantino and his friend Robert Rodriguez, on the movie Grindhouse, Deathproof. In Inglorious Basterds, Roth is playing the part of Sgt. Donny Donowitz.

Christoph waltz is the perfect choice for the main villain. He is portraying German – Hans Landa, and you will love to hate him during the whole movie.

Finally, let us mention one more famous face in this movie – Diane Kruger who is playing Bridget von Hammersmark. This German actress is already a household name in Hollywood and you probably remember her from Troy, Wicker Park, National Treasure and The Hunting Party.

Plot summary: In a Nazi occupied France, the whole family is killed in front of the eyes of young Shossana Dreyfus. The man behind this terrible slaughter is Colonel Hans Landa. Shossana escapes, but the horror and the trauma remain. Few years later, German hero of War Zoller falls in love with her and decides to force her to become part of his life and German high society. Although she is disgusted, she figures out that if she infiltrates in German high society, she can destroy them from the inside, and finally get some revenge.

Parallel story follows The Basterds, Jewish American guerrilla soldiers (led by Brad Pitt) who also have one goal – to kill Nazis, and one particularly – notorious Hand Landa.

Recommendation: This movie needs no recommendation, it speaks for itself. Strong, powerful, witty and fascinating – just like Tarantino loves them. If you admire his work, and love the way he’s moving boundaries – you will be fascinated by Inglorious Basterds!

Director: Hoyt Yeatman is a master of visual effects, and an Academy Award winner (in that field) for the movie Abyss. This is his directing debut, and these are the movies he has worked on, as a part of the visual effects unit: Underdog, Sky High, Kangaroo Jack, and Mission to Mars, Armageddon, Crimson Tide, Con Air, and many more.

Writer: Cormac and Marianne Wibberley (also known and credited as The Wibberleys) have written a screenplay and the story for the movie G – Force. Their previous movies include: National treasure, Charlie’s Angels: Full throttle, I Spy, The Shaggy Dog and National Treasure: The Book of Secrets.

Cast: Since this movie is done in a 3 -D technique, there are two types of cast: live cast and voice cast.

Recommendation: This is the first movie Jerry Bruckheimer has done in 3 –D and it is technically and visually more advanced than anything similar you had a chance to see. It is a live action Disney film, with ground braking effects, and can be viewed in 3 –D with Dolby 3_D and RealD Cinema. As soon as it was released, G –Force became a box office no.1, earning $ 30 million.

Writers: Edmonde Charles – Roux wrote a book about the life and style of Coco Chanel. That book was later developed into a movie script by director Anne Fontaine herself, and Camille Fontaine.

Cast: Ben Wishaw is a spectacularly talented young British actor, nominated for BAFTA, Bambi and European Film Award, for his remarkable role in the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. He has been very active since, and made few amazing movies: The International, I’m Not There and Briteshead Revisited. In this feature, Ben Wishaw is portraying John Keats.

Paul Schneider is portraying Charles Armitage Brown in the Bright Star, and we know him from: Away We Go, Lars and the Real Girl, Live free or die and other movies.

Kerry Fox is in the role of Mrs. Brawne. She is also a New Zealander, and well known to true cinematography lovers. Her biggest movies so far are: Inconceivable, He Said, Intervention, Cold Blood, and many more.

Plot summary: The movie bright Star follows a secret love affair between a young, talented, but very poor poet named John Keats and his neighbour; charming student of fashion college – Fanny Brawne. Against all odds these two start hanging out, and despite the fact they are completely different, they fall in love, out of the blue. He was never interested in fashion and she didn’t admire his poetry at all.

After his brother get ill, she decides to help John nurse him back to health, and starts hanging out with him even more, asking him to teach her about the poetry, which he agrees to do. The world of poetry becomes their connection, and the love affairs starts blooming. Her mother finds out about their romance, and decides to put an end to it, but by then, it is already too late, they are in love, obsessed and completely co-dependent.

Unfortunately, family is not their biggest problem. John Keats starts feeling worse and worse and they found out that he is terribly ill. That is when the real pain emerges because although their love is strong, and great – there are some things they can’t overcome together; and his illness is one of them.

Recommendation: Jane Campion is the true master of portraying touching love stories so prepare to be blown away by all those emotions this movie is packed with. Poetry transformed in a movie that is what Bright Star is. Brilliant, strong, and fool of love. This fall – it is a must see movie!
